A typical morning includes a number theory lecture and group discussions led by counselors around a specific topic connected to the lecture of the day. According to Ross, the formal course and discussion add up to around 3 hours per day.
The rest of the time is completely managed by students themselves, but most students spend a long time completing the question sets, discussing abstract concepts with peers, and attending optional lectures.
Later in the day, counselors might organize group activities, including ultimate frisbee, talent shows, outdoor recreation, and off-campus trips. However, these occur only occasionally, so most of the time, including weekends, will be expected to study math.
-
Concentrate on number theory, rather than touching slightly on multiple topics.
Number theory is selected as the main topic, as many topics within it are easy to understand, while deeper content is available for exploration.
There is tremendous value in the courses, so it is especially valuable even when students won’t touch on this experience during high school or college courses.
