Lemelson-MIT Program
Competition Descriptions:
The Lemelson-MIT program aims to foster students’ creativity, and practical problem solving abilities. It is a unique 1 year program where high school teams need to solve a problem for a community they care about. The high school teams will be mentored and given a certain amount of grant. The support and grant would be used to develop a working technological prototype to solve the identified problem.

Initial Application, where the faculty need to submit a proposal outlining their team, a potential problem and their capacity to support the project.
Final Application, where selected finalists (who qualified) are invited to develop a comprehensive final application over the summer, detailing their invention concept, plan, and budget. Up to ten teams are ultimately awarded a grant (up to 7,500$ each).

Applications need to be submitted by faculties at a U.S. high school or non-profit educational organization.
All team members need to be current high school students.

Each team will have around a year to develop a working technological prototype.
Teams are required to post and regularly update the progress on their own websites. These updates should include photos and videos.
During February, there will be a Mid-grant Technical review, where teams host an open house in their community to show their progress to mentors, experts, and future users of this prototype.
At the end of the year, usually during May, teams travel to MIT for the EurekaFest, where they showcase their final prototype to the public.
